As the owner of Gordy’s Barbershop, I take great pride in our history of service to the Chicagoland area. We take great pride in being a pillar on Chicago’s South Side for generations. The original Gordy’s was owned by Clarence Gordy, then by my mother, Mayola Clay, and eventually passed down to me. We are not only a barbershop, but a true cornerstone of the community.
Gordy’s Barbershop Foundation
Our nonprofit arm, Gordy’s Barbershop Foundation, believes in giving back and supporting those in need. Gordy’s has even partnered with the Chicago Police Department and the Stony Island Rebuild Foundation. From backpack giveaways to free haircuts for kids to social events, we do it all and we do it for our residents. Our goal in 2023 is to lead more violence prevention and mental health efforts on Chicago’s South Side and to help teach our trade to youth as an alternative to gun violence.
Round 3 Winner
The Chicago Recovery Plan (CRP) is a citywide effort under Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot to catalyze a sustainable economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Public funding was intended to foster thriving and safe communities, as well as support an equitable economic recovery. In November 2022, more than 60 neighborhood businesses and nonprofit organizations were awarded nearly $40 million in Community Development Grants as part of the CRP. Gordy’s was a proud recipient - one of over 600 applicants!
